We had a very good breakfast at Pension Nord and left on time at just after 9:00am. It was a beautifully cool morning as we headed towards and under the railway station, out past the Bauhaus, to pick up the main route out west to Aken. One of the first places we passed was the Junkers aviation museuem, a place to visit if you are interested in military history.
The photograph of the flowershop has been added as it has such a surprising name?
It was initially very busy but after a while the traffic eased off. There was a separate cycle way on which we could walk all the way to the ferry at Aken. At Aken we moved from the southern to the northern bank of the Elbe.
A few days ago there was quite a violent storm during the night, and that together with the flooding has resulted in lots of trees being snapped off or uprooted.
The road from Aken to Stuetz was very quiet and nicely shaded by trees. Because of the ferry there was little traffic and what traffic there was was quantized and walker friendly. They gave us a wide berth. It was a pleasant walk.
We were tiring on the road from Steutz to Steckby, which was initially shaded by trees. However on this road the mosquitoes were everywhere. It was a pleasure for once for the shade to run out as it seemed to reduce their numbers.
The entry into the village of Steckby was quite beautiful, I mentioned my impression to the hotel owner (Zum Biber) and he said Steckby had won a gold medal in the 90's because of its pleasing appearance.
We had a drink, checked in, and did our washing, and then headed back to the start of the town to photograph the church.
We had a very pleasant evening meal at Zum Biber, (The Beaver) with a very nice bottle of a dry Riesling. The walk was 22.3km and lasted just over 6 hours.
