We were a bit late leaving Torgau, ~9:15am, and at first we walked on the river side of the stop bank. It was quite pleasant in the early morning, not too hot. The road side of the stop bank had more wild flowers which attracted lots of butterflies. Very difficult to photograph. I did manage to photograph a discarded glove though, a cycling glove. With the number of cyclists who pass us each day this came as no surprise.
Later it got a bit hot without shade so we decided to take a more inland route with a few shade trees. We passed a pleasant area with a few small fishing lakes, created by isolated loops of the Elbe in its earlier wanderings.
We passed an area with storks nests, on high poles before passing through the village of Polbitz which was protected by a substantial dam wall. The large flood door, in the next photo, protect the south side of the Elbe where our hotel is located. The landlord said they had not had too much of a problem with flooding. Because of the lie of the land and the stop bank most water must flood the northern bank.
We arrived at the ferry house in Dommitzsch, shortly before 3pm after walking 19.8 km. Before going to our room we collapsed wih orange juice and an alcohol free beer. We had passed no food or drink outlets the whole day and my backpack water is yukky to say the least.
