For the attentive amongst you there will be some uncertainty as to why we are back in Coswig. There was a Coswig between Dresden and Meissen!
For the New Zealanders amongst you Coswig is to Palmerston as Coswig Anhalt is to Palmerston North. We are currently in Coswig Anhalt and a very active electric storm is raging and the rain is pouring down.
We had a pleasantly cool overcast departure from Wittenberg and we expected only to be walking 13km today, according to our Elberadweg book. It was a very varied route with some busy walking past a main road through an agricultural chemical works to minutes later walking through acres and acres of river meadows. We also today had a pleasant walk through a wooded area.
The biggest shock today though was that we thought we were in for a walk of 13km and finished up walking 20.3km. It took us just over six hours with one stop for drinks in a small bar just outside Griebo. The photographs of the road signs give some idea how confusion may arise.
We got caught in a short bout of rain, for about 10 minutes after midday but other than that it was a normal day gradually getting hotter and hotter.
Our pension, Weinhof an der Elbe, was beautifully cool when we arrived. The way to our room led under a grape vine full of grapes.
It came as something of a shock then when later in the evening, about 17:45 we we went out to the Marina (on the Elbe) for our evening meal, that the sun was still beating down.
We had a very pleasant meal at the Marina, ovelooking the Elbe. No Guinness but a very good dry white wine. I had trout and Shiel had pork with a cheese sauce and salad. A very pleasant end to what I found was a somewhat easier day. Frau Barr begs to differ on this point. It may be I benefitted from posting back some spare clothes.
We've booked a short day tomorrow, hopefully our last hot day and then another short day to Dessau the day after, largely dictated by access to accommodation.
