The landlady this morning showed us photograhs of her back garden taken during the June floods. It's incredible how quickly they've managed to get back in operation especially as they were without electricity for 10 days. The room where we had breakfast had been flood damaged.
It was quite pleasant to start with this morning wih some thick cloud. There had been a good thunderstorm last night with heavy rain so it was a bit cooler. However within the hour the sun burned through and the search for shade began.
We passed a house owned by some of Natalie's German relatives. See first photograph below. Not quite sandhill cranes Frank but interesting nontheless!
Further along Shiel was surprised when she was greeted, by name, by one of a flock of sheep. I managed to have a short conversation with one or two them. I tried to explain that what they were doing on the stop bank might not be allowed.
There were again lots of butterflies and as there was not as much wind today I managed to get a couple of photographs.
The photograph of the power line is to give you an idea of expected flood depths. Look at the concrete legs on the pylons.
There is also a photograph for Bill of our first UFO. I turned around to take a photograph of Shiel with wind turbine blades behind her peeping out above a forest. It seemed a bit wierd. However nothing like the object we saw on the film when starting to blog. What is it? Insect? Shiel heard no noises at the time. For the UFO buffs I cropped the film and reposted below the original.
For the statisticians todays walk was15.2 in 4:40 hours.
A point for those of you reading this in Sacramento. If you remember we were moaning about having to hide from the heat as temperatures passed 36ÂșC last year. Well we've had days here where we have had to walk more than 15 km in such temperatures whilst carrying backpacks weighing up to 14kg. Another couple of days though and things should be down to the mid 20'sC.
